Concussions and the Future of the NFL

As I agonizingly watched my beloved Patriots take their first loss of the season on
Sunday night to the Denver Broncos, besides feelings of disappointment, I began to look ahead.
Watch any professional football game and you will undoubtedly see some pretty rough hits and
tackles. The football players put their bodies on the line for what is considered to be America’s
favorite pastime. Game after game, play after play, these brave men continue to beat up their
bodies. My question is how much longer will this go on for? Growing up my mother would always comment on how happy she was my brothers and I never played football, and I don’t blame her. With all the controversy surrounding the National Football League nowadays regarding head injuries and the prevalence of new research backing the critics, I am experiencing mixed feeling in how I envision the game to advance. I can’t imagine the recession of
professional football but at the same time I can. Like Cigarettes and Cancer, research will prevail
and the masses will adjust to the facts. The future may be grey but all I can say is I’ll continue to
cheer for the Patriots every time those players step onto the field.
